I was diagnosed with Scoliosis, which is a severe curvature of the spine, and in May 2009, I underwent a spinal fusion where I had 2 rods and 21 screws inserted in my back. By determination and hard work, I defeated the odds by playing my fall sport, badminton, just 6 weeks after my surgery (most people are just starting to get off of bed rest at 6 weeks). I helped my team make it to the semi-finals in 5A badminton team state and I was the Badminton 2nd Place 5A State Singles Champion.
